water harvesting for restoration of hope
Who we are
Don Bosco Oasis of Hope (DBOH) is an organization that strives to save every drop of water that flows through the dry terrain of Marsabit County. Every time it rains millions litres of water goes into waste as it flows through the non -perennial rivers.
With modern technology DBOH will be able to harvest and manage enough water by purifying, storage, selling to the businesses, tourism industry and as our corporate social responsibility distribute at subsided cost to pastoralist community and therefore meeting SDGs 6- access to safe water and sanitation as well as SDGs 13 on climate change.
WHERE WE WORK
Don Bosco Oasis of Hope is based in Saku Constitutuency,
Marsabit County in Northern part of Kenya.
Marsabit county is an arid region with high temperature and
hence experiences water shortage with an average of 10- 15km to water points.
However every time it rains, there is flooding and water goes into waste due to
very limited or no water harvesting infrastructure for the water flowing through
the non -perennial rivers. After the
rains, the non- perennial rivers dry and cycle of challenge is repeated.
Animals die and households especially women and children walk for kilometers in
search of water.

WHAT WE DO
Don Bosco Oasis of Hope is an organization that focuses on harvesting and management of water that flows into waste every time it rains and floods in Marsabit County. This is through construction of water harvesting infrastructure along the non – perennial rivers and at foot of identified hills as well as use of water storage bags and tanks for water collection. We construct dam, dig water pans, drill and renovate wells. Once the water is harvested, it is taken through purification process and stored in safe tanks. The water is packaged for sale to the business community and tourism industry. As our cooperate social responsibility we distribute water to the community at a subsidized cost.
