YEIRA: Empowering youth through regenerative agriculture

Developed during the SEED4AFRICA national hackathon in Kenya, YEIRA (Youth Empowerment in Regenerative Agriculture) is an innovative agribusiness initiative dedicated to equipping young people with the skills, tools and opportunities needed to lead the transition toward sustainable food systems. The project recognises that empowering youth is not only an investment in livelihoods, but also a critical strategy for restoring ecosystems and building climate resilience.

At the core of YEIRA’s mission is the promotion of regenerative agriculture, an approach that rebuilds soil health, enhances biodiversity and mitigates climate change while ensuring sustainable food production. YEIRA actively engages young people as farmers, agripreneurs and environmental stewards, addressing the generational gap that often limits the adoption and scaling of regenerative practices.

The business model combines training, mentorship, technology and market access. YEIRA delivers youth internships offering hands-on farm experience, develops user-friendly mobile applications for crop planning, soil health monitoring and pest management, and provides online learning platforms with interactive courses on regenerative agriculture and agribusiness entrepreneurship. In parallel, farm-to-table initiatives connect young producers directly with consumers, schools and local markets, strengthening short value chains and income opportunities.

Market research highlights a rapidly growing demand among youth for education and support in sustainable agriculture. YEIRA positions itself within a dynamic ecosystem of youth-focused organisations, differentiating through its integrated approach that links learning, innovation and enterprise development. The initiative demonstrates strong growth potential, with increasing youth engagement, employment creation and financial performance over successive years.

By combining youth empowerment, regenerative farming and digital innovation, YEIRA fully embodies the SEED4AFRICA vision of fostering inclusive, climate-smart agribusiness solutions that support both people and the planet.
