Youth-led innovations shine at the SEED4AFRICA National Hackathon in South Africa

The final event in the SEED4AFRICA National Hackathon series took place on 11 – 12 March at Carmel Coastal Retreat in George, South Africa, organized by Learning Academy Worldwide. Four teams competed, presenting forward-thinking solutions aimed at sustainable agriculture, food security, and community empowerment.

CONCORDIA CLIMATE SMART FARMING introduced students and young farmers to a green spout container system, designed to grow nutritious fodder during drought periods. This innovative approach ensures livestock have consistent access to quality feed, supporting rural farmers in climate-vulnerable regions.

CONCORDIA CARE focused on vertical farming and open-field food production, while also demonstrating a hydroponic livestock system to rural farmers and students. Their project aims to educate and empower communities with modern farming techniques, increasing both productivity and sustainability.

Bringing urban agriculture into focus, GREEN HARVEST proposed a combined vertical farming and aquaponics system to produce organic fruits, vegetables, and fish. This integrated model addresses urban food needs while reducing environmental impact.

Finally, HARLEEM OATS AND POTATOES highlighted farm-to-table solutions, ensuring fresh, affordable food reaches consumers directly while supporting local agriculture.

At the conclusion of the competition, CONCORDIA CARE emerged as the winning team, celebrated for its practical, scalable, and educational approach to modern farming systems.
